Fertility Injections Can Help You Get Pregnant

It is always difficult when you want to have a child but are infertile, but today fertility injections are one way to overcome the problem. Talk to your doctor about what your choices are if you want a child but suspect that you are infertile. Most couples are successful at having a pregnancy within one to two years of trying.

Fertility injections may be the first choice for you but only your doctor can help you make that decision. First you need to go through all the treatment options and the pros and cons of each one. Many fertility treatments are very expensive and not covered by insurance, so you need to find the most effective treatment at the best price.

It is not necessary to immediately rush to an expensive option such as in vitro fertilization if other methods may be equally effective for you. Every case of infertility is different because the individuals involved are unique. Statistics show that 90% of all the couples with fertility problems are successful with drug or surgery choices.

Fertility injections are at the top of the list for successful non-invasive infertility treatments. Both women and men can benefit from fertility injections. Sometimes people take these drugs at the same time that they receive artificial insemination. This process is used when the sperm needs help getting to the egg. It’s no wonder that it is easier to get pregnant when sperm are placed in your uterus at the exact time you are ready for them.

The next infertility technique is surgery. This is considered a viable option when the fallopian tubes are blocked or you have other circumstances, such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis or a genetic defect. Many times success can be had by using a laparoscope but there is always the possibility that you will need more extensive abdominal surgery.

Once you get to surgical options and then move on to ART, or assisted reproductive technology, your treatment is starting to get very expensive.  The last option would be the need to have an egg donor or a surrogate mother. Before that, your doctor will help you to consider such options as in vitro fertilization, intracytoplastic sperm injection, gamete intrafallopian transfer or zygote intrafallopian transfer.

If you decide to have fertility injections, you will receive all the information you need from your doctor. Many women are afraid of giving themselves injections but it is not as hard as many people think. Friends and spouses can also be of help if you really think you cannot do it alone.

Injections can be subcutaneous or intramuscular. Subcutaneous injections can be given in the abdomen or thigh. You should always inject in different spots to prevent infections. Among the drugs given in these types of fertility injections are Gonal-F, Follistim, and Lupron.

If you have to give yourself intramuscular injections, the hip is the best place. Always rotate sites here too so as not to get infections. Among the drugs that need intramuscular injections are HCG and Progesterone.

Usually your doctor will have a nurse go over the ways to give yourself fertility injections. They may have you give yourself the first one in the doctor’s office so they can see that you understand the procedure. Sometimes they will have you practice giving injections into an orange.

If you are suffering from infertility and becoming frustrated in your attempts to get pregnant, see your doctor to go over all the options. Fertility injections may be one of your first choices and exactly what you need to have a successful pregnancy.
